Any Suggestions will be appreciated.

I would start emailing any restaurants you are interested in a.s.a.p. Christmas dinner will often be booked up months in advance (occasionally even before the Christmas menus are out!).

Steve's suggestion of Yorkshire pudding at Christmas Dinner is a bit off the mark unless your Christmas dinner will be roast beef.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll follow up on them and try to find a place for a traditional Engkish Christmas dinner. Happy travels.

While we haven't been there for Christmas, our favorite restruant in York is Gert and Henery's. It is in a half-timber house just at the edge of the market and The Shambles. They serve a great roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, and I am certain that a traditional roast goose would be available.

We had Christmas dinner in 2005 at the Monk House in York. It is just outside the old city walls. It was lovely, the food was good and we got 'crackers'. They advise to dress 'smart'. I suggest you make reservations now.

You asked about day trips...We did a wonderful day trip from York when we were there in '01 to James Herriot's home in Thirsk. James Herriot wrote "All Creatures Great and Small". It wasn't in Rick's guide (don't know if it is now), but saw a brochure about it at the TI in York. Took the train from York to Thirsk, about an hour, then taxi to town. It was one of the biggest highlights of all our 5 trips to GB and Europe. If you like James Herriot, you'll love this day trip.
