My husband and I and our two teenage children will be in London for Christmas and we were looking for ideas of where to stay and where to have christmas dinner. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Anne
Don't have any specific recommendations as people who live in London don't usually have Christmas dinner in restaurants. But you need to get booked by October as decent restaurants book up fast around Christmas. Very few restaurants will actually be open on Christmas Day. This reputable London listing site has a list of the ones that were open last year. http://www.timeout.com/london/christmas/features/3836/London_restaurants_open_on_Christmas_Day_2008.html
Also, be warned that there is NO public transport in London on Christmas Day except a few taxis, which are in high demand. If you find a place that is open, make sure it's within walking distance of where you're staying or book cabs well in advance both ways.
How long are you staying? If a week or so, look at booking an apartment instead of a hotel. Cook your own dinner Christmas day. It does not have to be fancy, but everything will be closed so why go out. No transport, no museums, etc. From what I have heard, Boxing day is about the same.
