Cherry Court

On Rick's recommendation, my wife and I stayed at Cherry Court Hotel. Wow! It makes budget hotels in New York seem enormous. While it is a good value, in a good location, and the Patel's are wonderful people, the room we had was tiny!

But, you were able to lay down in the room. Or did you have to sit up to sleep. A lot of B&Bs have very small rooms. Remember one room where we had to crawl across the bed to get to the other side of the room.

Matt, I take it you had a double room with one bed? I looked at the photos and saw the bed was touching two walls. I felt it was worth it to spend a little more. I think they were quoting 70 pounds a night for that room, which was an en suite double. As we were planning to stay in London for 9 nights, we ended up spending 127 pounds a night for an apartment. If we were just staying a couple nights, I think we could take such a small room though.

We had a double en-suite for 55 pounds a night. Unbeatable. But, as I mentioned earlier, we'd spend a little more for a little more space.

Ah yes, they have a triple at the top of the house for 70 pounds a night, with a double bed and single bed. We were planning to stay there, I think it is room 7 or something like that.

We also stayed at the Cherry Court and yes the room was very small, but we expected it to be and the price was right. We didn't go to London to spend much time in the room anyway. The bed was comfy enough, room was clean and Mrs. Patel was super nice so we were happy with the choice.

This is the very reason why we moved to a nearby Ibis Hotel. We moved out of our 'broom closet' for which we were paying 90 pounds per night to a nearby Ibis which was 89 pounds per night during the week and 102 pounds on weekends. Breakfast was extra, but for the sake of our sanity, it was worth every cent. One thing I found after two nights in the closet, was that I could never serve on a submarine!!!!

I last stayed at the Cherry Court in 2003 and the rates have gone up! We payed 49 GBP and it is now 60 GBP. At the time we booked, this was just the best value for the location. We stayed there on three different occasions and were more than satisfied due to location, location, location. Having said that, I am always glad when people talk about how small the rooms are (they really are small!!) since I want people to know what to expect. As for me, I would probably look around at other hotels in the area, but I would stay here again if it were the best value for the area. I don't spend much time in my room, and you just can't beat the location.

We are staying at Cherry Court next week. This will be the fourth visit to this hotel. It is a charming, clean, secure hotel in a wonderfully convenient location. And it has the lovely Mrs Patel as well. If I need to walk, I leave my room.

Like everything, it is all a matter of perspective and preference. We stayed in the Cherry Court this summer. It was by far the smallest room we stayed in during our month in Britain. However, it was cheap enough and, like others have said, we didn't spend much time in the room. If you have the money and want to spend more on more space, that is great. For me, though, 10 more pounds a night equaled 50 pounds for the week which was $100 more (with the exchange rate in July). A pound here and there really adds up - especially over the course of a month.

But everyone has different priorities.
