Cheddar Gorge?

Has anyone gone to Cheddar Gorge in England? My youngest son found it in our tour book, and has expressed interest in going. Has anyone been? We leave tomorrow night, and I am too excited to sleep!

It's pretty unusual topography for the UK and well worth seeing if you're out around Bath. If you're not heading in the general direction, I wouldn't make a special trip.

I've been - yes its quite interesting, if you're in the area and have some time to spare. You can get the best Cheddar in the world around there, and also some amazingly strong farm cider too.

The area is really amazing but it has a very touristy side so be prepared. You will have to pay for parking as well as hiking up-at least the area we saw. We got there very early so the gate to climb up was still locked-a chain link type gate. Lots of tacky shops but the cheese ones are great-wonderful Cheddar. The owner of the B&B described Cheddar Gorge as "British tacky" and she was right. It reminded me of Gatlinburg, Tn-a beautiful natural area ruined by poor development.

I was there in 2004 and would definitely put it on the top 10 tacky tourist traps of the world. However, I enjoyed it because the tourists were mainly British, the tackiness was so blatant it was fun and the surrounding geology was beautiful. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, but if it fits with your schedule-I'd go
