Checking out the Lake District

Hi everyone~

Our travel plans are starting to come together with our daily plans getting filled in. However, I don't have anything really "planned" for the two days we'll have in the Lake District. We are staying in Ambleside in a B&B. Hubby would like to go sailing at some point. Any suggestions for "must see" places/activities?

In Kendal...Levans Hall they have beautiful topiary gardens~~In Rydal...Wordsworth home,Rydal Mount he lived here from 1813 till his death before that he live at Dove Cottage in Grasmere~~In Hakshead there is the Beatrix Potter Gallery and her home Hill Top. Just driving around and enjoying the beauty of the Lake District. Castlerigg Stone Circle is not far from Keswick on A66.

Another vote for Hawkshead. The Lake District is so beautiful and while I cannot suggest anything pertaining to sailing, please be sure to take walks.

I visited the Castlerigg Stone Circle when I visited the Lake District. I also went a little further north and went to Carlisle where I visited the Castle. I think that the idea of sailing sounds lovely. It looks like there is at least one place where you can rent a sailboat. http://www.glenriddingsailingcentre.co.uk/hire.htm Pam

Ennerdale is about quietest dale, with great scenery.
with a bit of adventure why not try Black Sail Hut.
Should also see Honister Pass,

What a wonderful area. I loved Wordsworth Cottage and Hill Top farm. My mother and I also took a car ferry across a lake on the way to Hill Top farm and that was a blast-do try it. If you like sailing, you might also like a ride on one of the little steam powered boats. I think they are on Lake Windermere.
