Checking Luggage at Train station

My wife and I are traveling to England in the fall. We are flying into London and will be catching a train north. I need to drop off 1-2 big bags at the train station so that I can travel light. How safe is the luggage check at the train station? What is the cost per bag/per day? Is there a size/weight limitation? I am considering going to my hotel in London and checking bags there before catching a train. Also, we will be stopping at other locations (York, Scotland and a few others) when we travel north. Is the price per bag the same at other train stations?

If your hotel will store your bags for you, you will save a lot of money. The London train stations that have left luggage facilities are Charing Cross, Euston, Kings Cross, Liverpool Street, Paddington, St Pancras, Victoria, and Waterloo. These are staffed facilities (no lockers). The rates are the same at all the stations: £8/item for the first 24 hours and £4/item for each 24 hours after that. Rates are cheaper at Victoria Coach (bus) station. Deposits up to 2 hours: £2/No weight consideration. Deposits 2-24 hours: £3.50/Under 20 kg. Deposits 2-24 hours: £5.50/Over 20 kg. Multiple Days charged at daily rate as above (£3.50/£5.50 by weight). Use www.nationalrail.co.uk to check if the non-London stations you will be using have left luggage facilities. You'll get a "yes" or "no," but not a price. My guess is that the prices will be less than they are in London.

Bag storage in York is £5/day behind a staffed counter. I don't think it's open 24 hours, though.

Thank you all for your feedback. I have what I need. My London Hotel agreed to hold my bags for a few days while I travel north. I will give a tip to the bellman. It will cost me a lot less vs checking at the London train station.
