Are there any monasteries or abbeys to stay in in London? Can anyone recommend a clean hostel, preferably in a residential neighborhood in central London. Thanx

I can recommend The Ace Hotel in Kensington, a very nice area in London. I stayed there for four nights, May/06 and it was very nice....it is more like a "boutique hotel" then a hostel. Everything was brand new and very clean with a nice patio/backyard to relax. Front desk was very helpfull. It is not a party hostel. The tube is only two blocks away. You can check it out at www.ace-hotel.co.uk and more info and reviews at www.hostelz.com.
Try the Cherry Court Hotel which is a stone's throw from Victoria station. Funky old place with very nice owners, tiny rooms but the location and ambiance is great!
The Arran House Hotel is a B&B in Bloomsbury that, in addition to its regular rooms, has dorm-style rooms at hostel-like prices. Everyone gets the full English breakfast. See www. arranhotel-london.com.
We have twice stayed at Royal Court Apartments just 1/2 block north of Hyde Park on Gloucester Terr, only 3 blocks from Paddington Station. Our last trip, in 2006, we paid £60/nite. In 2004 we stayed at Ambassadors Hotel in South Kensington, for £52. There was an excellent bkfst there. If you stay at the hotel section of RCA, brkfst is included and the rates are lower

I don't know of any monastaries, but a cheap place to stay in Central London is easyhotel.com.
Its cheap, clean and no frills. Granted, the room has no windows but you have a bed, shower, and toilet... all private!
