I saw an interesting place in Chatham...called the World Naval Base.....in a Michelin book; but I don't see it in many guidebooks. Has anyone been there? Is it easy to get to from London? Or to Dover from there?
THanks so much!

According to www.chdt.org.uk, by train it is one hour from Dover and 45 minutes from London.
It's the old RN dockyard at Chatham, closed about 25 years ago after building ships for about 400 years, and now quite an interesting museum for those interested in things naval. It takes you all the way back to the days of the wooden ships. They've also got three ships you can tour....an old sailing ship, a destroyer, and a submarine. If I remember correctly, you're given a specific time slot to visit the sub, since it's a touch cramped down there.
We were there 5 years ago on a fast visit - will be returning in August. We enjoyed it a lot. We had a car then and will again, so it's easy to get to. From there we went to Canterbury and then on to Dover.
