Channel Islands---stay on Jersey or Guernsey?

any recommendations for which island to use as a base for 4-5 nights? any recommendations for 2-3*** guest house/B&B in either St Helier or St Peter Port?

Jersey has been a tourist destination for longer, in fact it was a mass-market destination long before cheap Spanish holidays started to become available to working class people in the 1960s. When my daughter was a small child we went there three years in a row because it's got so much variety, and so much to do, rain or shine. The world-famous zoo, the German hospital, Jersey Pottery, all the WW2 occupation sites, the castles, plenty for a few days' holiday. Guernsey is quieter, less 'touristy' but it shares many of the same features - lovely coastline, pretty countryside, a quirky feel like you've stepped back in time. I've only ever sailed there when I used to crew racing yachts so I don't have the same detailed experience as I do of Jersey, but I'd say there is less to do and arguably it could provide a more relaxed visitor experience. Not that Jersey isn't relaxed, it just feels busier. Guernsey is smaller too, 63,000 people to Jersey's 98,000.
