Hi. I'm thinking of re-arranging my July tour of France that would leave me 3 days/ngts unspoken for and may want to take a ferry to the Channel Islands from Normandy. I have done some research and what I see intrigues me. I searched on the helpline but didn't find anything current that would help me decide which island I should concentrate on. I would like to hear opinions from those who have been there. I'm interested in history, nature, architecture, scenery. 1. I know I can do a day trip by ferry to Sark Island without a car, but would I need a car on Jersey, Guernsey, or Alderney? Could I get around to sites without a car? 2. Any suggestions on places to stay? 3. Is 2 days on a larger island plus a day trip to Sark enough to see any important sites? Wow, I know I'm asking a lot but this is a totally new idea for me and I need all the input I can get. Thanks for any help you can give me!
i would suggest your plan for 2 days on a larger Island (we like Jersey ), and then a ferry from Jersey for 1 day on Sark. Sark is pleasant, a nice way to spend a day, walk from the harbor as far as you can go (over the "bridge' to Little Sark). We found a great cream tea on Little Sark- possibly the only tea shop there We got around Jersey quite comfortably by public bus. you can get to all the (major) sights. With a little walking in between two sights we eventually went all around Jersey. Jersey does seem pleasantly rural with nice beaches and country lanes. Sights include Gorey castle, Gerald Durrell's zoo; Jersey Pottery
Thanks Brian. I'll have a rental car in France and was just wondering if it's worth it to take it on the ferry to the islands. Thanks for the info on being able to get around Jersey by bus. That helps in my planning.
Hi Nancy, I spent four nights on Jersey in July of 2010. Stayed at the very nice and terrificly located Pomme d'or hotel (City Center) which has a convenient location near the bus/ferry stations. Inexpensive buses took us everywhere on the island. Nice experience Jersey. Regards, Emma
