My husband likes the Gloucester Place Hotel: http://www.gloucesterplacehotel.com/ He reports that it is inexpensive and basic but very friendly, and well-located for the tube and sight-seeing. We'll be staying there in November, actually.

We have rented this apartment through vrbo: http://www.vrbo.com/270611. The price seemed reasonable and its proximity to the British Museum and St. Pancras seemed like a good idea. We arrive there on Oct 8 for a week. I'll post a review when I've had a chance to experience the place.
