I'm taking my iPad to London for the first time. I normally have a Verizon account here in Los Angeles. What do I need to do to ensure that I have cellular access while in London? Thanks.
Two options - -Just use Wifi -Get a SIM card, so you have connectivity everywhere. I brought my iPad mini to London in July, and got a nano SIM from EE - it seems CarphoneWarhouse does not stock nanoSIMs yet, so they sent me to EE, which is TMobile. For £15 I got a month of unlimited data, which was perfect since I spent the whole month there. If you want constant data access, I'd recommend going to a CarphoneWarehouse and they will help you set everything up.
I have an iPad mini. How does a SIM card work? Is it something you install on the iPad, and if so, where? And what is EE and where is it found? thanks for your help!
There is a slot for your nano SIM card on the right side of the iPad - its really small, and can only be opened with a pin-type thingie, one should've come with your iPad. But don't worry about opening it up and taking anything out when you are at home, they can do it for you at whatever store you go to, and just make sure you don't lose the Verizon SIM. The SIM is what you need to connect for cellular data. EE is a mobile provider. I was very happy with the service I got - they had plans you could use by the day, week, or month, or just pay as you go. I just brought in my iPad, told them what I wanted, and they set it up all, put in the SIM, and made sure it was working before I left. I'm not a very techie person so I hope this makes sense!
Thank you so much for the explanation! It is very helpful. As you can probably tell, I'm not very techie either, but now I know what I have to do.
You could always take your iPad down to the local Apple Store and ask their very knowledgeable staff of some assistance. I can not wait for the iPad Mini to come out with Retina display - maybe in October?
I used an I-POD touch and found a lot of free WiFi as well around London.
