Does anyone know if there is a cell phone shop, or any shop, in Gatwick that sells cell phone SIM cards? We are arriving in Gatwick and then immediately renting a car and heading to Stonehenge followed by Bath. I would like to pick up a SIM card so we can use our unlocked cell phones before leaving the airport. I would rather not have to wait until we get to Bath. Due to time constraints, we are not heading into London that day. I checked Gatwicks website but did not see any cell phone shops. Last year when we went to Rome we saw a few cell phone shops at the airport and was wondering if Gatwick had something similar.

Carphone Warehouse had a temporary site up at the airport, at least today. Carphone Warehouse. Maybe it will stick around long enough for your arrival. Or, because you're renting a car, you can get one on your way out. There are two Carphone Warehouse shops very near the airport in Crawley. I suspect other mobile phone shops will be nearby, too. You don't have to go to London to get a SIM card.

Phil! Man, I would have loved to be at Gatwick! And he has a new show that we don't get here, of course. Darn it, should have gone to the UK this summer! :) Good luck getting what you need!

You can also get SIMS at convenience stores. You'll be needing petrol and I bet you can get the card while filling up.

Be careful when looking to buy a SIM. There was a recent report of someone buying a T Mobile SIM from a vending machine at Heathrow airport. She found that she had paid £10 for a SIM that had no call time on it. The packaging did not make this clear. Look for the SIMS where either all you pay for is the call time ie the SIM is free or where there is a generous amount of call time included in the price.
