Castle stay in Ireland

We (two couples) will be traveling in Ireland for two weeks this September. We are planning on staying in B&Bs while we are there but would like to stay in a castle for at least one of our nights. Any recommendations that won't eat up all of our budget? (I don't mind a little splurge but $400 seems over the top.)

Hi Kathy,

My fiancee and I are leaving in two days for our first Ireland trip. While we are not staying at the following location (due to our schedule), it looks pretty great! It even has a resident ghost :-)

It looks to be about 140 Euros per night per couple for a B&B stay in this castle (2 tower rooms).

Keep your eye on the Ashford Castle web site, or sign up for their mailing list. THey will do "B&B specials" which amount to 50% off, and include breakfast. (I think breakfast was like $40 pp if you paid cash).

We got two rooms, with breakfast for around $500, and both our rooms got upgraded, one to a suite, and one to the only room in the castle with stained glass windows! :)

Same suggestion for Dromoland (where we've stayed) and Adair Castles...with the economy in the gutter right now, I continually get e-mail offers from both. (Dromoland sets you up nicely for a departure from Shannon Airport.)

Thanks for the suggestions! I will sign up for the emails today. I also like the idea of a haunted castle.
