It has been several years since I was in London, but we are going back in a few weeks. I remember visiting a castle or palace or possibly a museum that had dedicated rooms that were filled with old kitchen tools, etc that were used in the the large kitchens to prepare feasts long ago. There were also rooms of dishes and china and all sorts of interesting stuff. Then you walked by rooms that were behind glass walls that were set up as dining rooms and the tables were set to showcase what a dinner would have looked like back in the day. It was fabulous!! But I can't for the life of me remember where we saw this. Does anybody have a clue? Thanks so much.
Hampton Court has kitchen's set up as they were back in the day, but I don't think it has a dining room set up. You can actually eat in the old dining room - they have it set up as a cafe. What you describe sounds a little like the castle museum in York, but it's not really in a castle so not a large scale - more like what you would have found in homes. It's been several years since I was at Warkwick, but it seems they may have had dining rooms set up there. I don't remember any glass walls at Windsor. I'd be very curious to know the answer to this question.....I'm headed there this fall and love this sort of thing!
Sounds like Hampton Court Palace. Have a great trip!
I've only ever heard about it, but could you be thinking of the John Soames museum??
I think it sounds like Hampton Court, but even if it wasn't, I think you'd love the Tudor kitchens there. They have a large model of the palace that lights up so you can get a good idea of the whole set up. Check out this site.
