Castle in Ireland

Travelling to Ireland for 15 days May-June. Looking for suggestions of a csatle to stay in for a couple of nights. Plan to be in Galway area and the southwest coastal areas for the majority of time. Anyone stay at Ballynahinch Castle or have other suggestions? Thanks, James

James, You could also have a look at ASHFORD CASTLE, which is near the small town of Cong on the Mayo/Galway border. It's an incredibly beautiful location on Lough Corrib. At one time, it was owned by a member of the Guinness family. If your budget will allow, I'm sure you would be VERY comfortable there! Happy travels!

Thanks for the info and suggestions! Going to bypass Ballynahinch since it is more of a victorian mansion. Checking into trying to get Ashford or Ballyportry! Ashford is nice though the formal wear for dinner compromises my traveling light. Ballyportry seems like a very interesting place......pricier than Ashford but you get the whole castle to yourself. Thanks again!!!!

James, A few days ago I came across a posting (forgot which forum), where someone said that the highlight of their trip to Ireland was several hours spent at Ashford getting a lesson in falconry, with their own assigned bird. It sounded like a very unusual and interesting experience. And I agree, Ballyportry looks like it would be a lot of fun, and the nearby village seems to be quite pleasant too!
