We wound up booking through Enterprise. They have a location in Gloucester and one in Cirencester that's where we rented from. There are other locations too but thosearwf the ones I know about off the top of my head. They picked us up from the train station. The price was good and they were really easy to deal with. Hope this helps!

Another choice would be to take the train to Oxford. Avis is just behind the station and you'll be just 20 minutes from the Cotswolds.

Janice, Although it would be a a bit of a drive, you could also take the train or National Express Coach to Bath and rent a car there. That's the method I used when I last visited the Cotswolds. It was the easiest solution as I wanted to spend a few days in Bath first and also visit the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton. I've been travelling with a GPS unit for the last few years, and found that very useful for getting around that area. Happy travels!

I would call all the major car rental companies and ask prices on all your different options and see which is cheapest...book with a price you are comfortable with, then check again if you have time and see if you can get a better rate. If you need an automatic you may already be a bit late. I rent most of my trips and it is one of the first things I secure, because the prices sometimes go up and down on a daily basis and you can spend hundreds more than you need to. I never prepay as this locks you in and if the prices go down with another company you can't change (unless I get a really cheap price from priceline)

Also consider Swindon- large town on southern edge of otswolds on main train line to West. dfinitely large enough to have a choice of car rental facilities. And nice drive into the Cotswolds. (Not my usual route to the Cotswolds, but have done it)

We're taking a bus to Oxford from Heathrow. Our reservations are with National which is close to the train station. Tim, I didn't know the Cotswolds were that close, but that's great. We'll probably be tired from our flight!

As of the beginning of this year...The White Hart Royal Hotel in Moreton-in-Marsh handles cars for Avis. They are a pick up and drop off service, they do not deal with any payments. You would need to hire a car through a different location or online and pre pay everything. Avis will arrange for you to pick it up/drop off at White Hart Royal Hotel.
