We are flying into and out of Dublin in June 2010, we intend to travel throughout Ireland by auto. We need suggestions on a pick up and drop off point in or around Dublin. Everything we have read says a car is not necessary in Dublin. We appreciate any suggestions, thank you, Mike Morley
It depends on which end of your trip you will actually visit Dublin, and which way you will be coming back from (or heading to). If you are heading out right away, you might as well pick up at the airport. The motorway is very nearby.
Not only is a car not necessary in Dublin, it would be a hindrance and not an asset. Parking would be both hard to find and expensive. The central city is very walkable and the bus system is excellent.
If you haven't already booked your plane tickets, consider flying into Shannon and out of Dublin (or vice versa). It will save you a lot of backtracking.
