Car in Dublin?

hello. My mother and I will be in Dublin just for the weekend in September. She is wondering if we should get a car. I feel like that won't be necessary to just sightsee the few days we are there? Or will be be stranded?

If you're staying in Dublin you will not need a car. Traffic in Dublin is pretty awful, particularly if you're not used to driving on the left, and parking can be expensive. The bus system around town is extensive, and you can find tours to outlying areas like Newgrange and Glendalough as well. Skip the car.

If you are strictly staying within Dublin, then a car is absolutely unnecessary. You would waste a lot of time trying to find parking and navigating the confusing streets. The tourist center of Dublin is fairly compact and easily walkable. Also, this is the type of city where the hop-on hop-off tourists buses work very well.

The hop-on,hop-off bus ticket is,I believe, 14 Euros and is good for 24 hours. It is an excellent way to navigate the tourist areas of Dublin and being valid for the 24 hours gives you parts of two days to see the sights.

If you have any interest what so ever in Irish history be sure and visit Kilmainham jail.
