Car ferries across Loch Lomond

My husband and I are traveling around Scotland & England by car at the end of March. We have limited time in Scotland and are hoping to get as much of the Trossachs Nat. Park in as we can. We've only got one day for scenic driving, which will start in Glasgow and end in Edinburgh. The short story is that we would like to see some sites both west and east of Loch Lomond. The most efficient path would be across the Loch (instead of retracing our path to the south or going way north) but I'm having trouble finding a car ferry. Does anyone have any ideas? Inveruglas to Inversnaid would be ideal but we are open to suggestions. Thanks for all your help!

You can't find one because there isn't one. If you look on a map you'll see that there really isn't an economic reason for one. I would recommend that you go to Balloch on the southern tip of Loch Lomond. Here you can do a cruise and then continue your drive to Edinburgh. The A82 that goes up the western shore of Loch Lomond is a busy road. You could go as far north as Luss, explore that village and then return south and over to Edinburgh. This is just one of those situation where the geography defeats you. It happens a lot in Scotland where you think you should be able to go directly from A to B, but in reality you have to pass through C, D, E, and F before you're back at B.

The Trossachs are beautiful You might want to just reserve Loch Lomond for another trip and go straight to the Trossachs. I'm willing to bet that the B829 is a beautiful drive up to Loch Katrine. I didn't take that drive, but I have done other drives in the Trossachs. Get an early start as the wee roads are slow roads. But the wee roads are the best. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.
