Canterbury and Leeds Castle

We will be using trains for transportation. We are staying in London. Can we see both Canterbuy and Leeds Castle in the same day?

I think you would be pushing it too hard. Leeds is a pretty big place with a lot to see. We have done both, but would not try to do both in the same day. They have a new train going to Canterbury from St. Pancras and it is fast. It is about 45 minutes now. I was pleasantly surprised at the speed and comfort. It still smelled new March 20, 2010. You need to leave after 9:00 am to get the off-peak rates. You will need at least an hour at Canterbury Cathedral, but it is so interesting you could spend several hours looking at everything. there are some nice shops to go through. There is always another day.
Thanks - Bill

Knowing nothing about trains, you need a couple of hours for the cathedral and at least an hour for Canterbury itself -- figure four hours. Leeds castle is an easy three-hour project.

The tain station at Canterbury is handy. The closest one to the castle at Leeds is a couple of miles away on the other side of the freeway -- I have no idea how you get from one to the other.

We had a car, so I can't speak to taking the train, but one day for both Leeds and Canterbury would not have worked for us. Yes, a person could rush through but we prefer to take our time. There's much to see at Leeds and much to see in Canterbury.

I think there's a train from Canterbury to the station nearest Leeds Castle, Bearsted. Check www.leeds-castle.com for directions on getting there by train. There are two train stations at Canterbury, so do check before you go. I think it's possible to do both in one very long day but agree that it'll be rushed. I spent an entire day at Canterbury, just kept finding things to do and see, even just walking around, or by the river. And spent about 3 hours at Leeds Castle on another trip.

I would suggest taking a tour with Evan Evans...http://www.evanevanstours.co.uk/leeds-castle.htm.... or Goldens. They have day tours that goes to Canterbury, Leeds Castle and to Dover to see the white cliffs. Both of these companies are good, and I'm sure you would enjoy the day. You can find about these tours at your hotel in London.
