We were driving to Edinburg and noticed some roads with a sign with a picture of a camera. Are these speed zones? Anyone know the charge if speeding. I have a feeling we we going a bit over. Ugh. Not looking forward to extra charges!
Depending on the colour and shape of the sign it either means a mobile speed check area or a fixed camera area. The speeds don't change for it. If you drive the appropriate speed it won't flash. If you speed in a mobile area and the van is there you won't see a flash. Charge? Dunno. Never had one in 40 years of driving both sides of the pond. You can bet its high. I expect its around £60 and 3 penalty points. The fine probably doubles if not paid immediately.
I had this happen while driving in Scotland. After returning home, I received a letter explaining the offense (speeding) and what to do. I answered their letter as they said, and they canceled the fine. I think they were so surprised to hear from me that they couldn't bring themselves to actually fine me! At least that is how the reply read. I didn't ask them to cancel anything, just asked them how to pay.
