Cambridge area lodging, accessible by public transport

Hello,

I am looking for lodging (b&b or hotel) you would recommend. I want to visit the Imperial War Museum Duxford and stay in the area (I know I can use the C7 bus to get from Cambridge to Duxford). I hope to stay under £50.

Many thanks!

If you are looking for cheap housing, I suggest you search for a hostel in the area.

My wife and I stay in hostels every time it is convenient and we find one in our area. We like being with other budget travelers and families with kids. Many hostels now have private rooms with baths. And most linclude breakfast in the rate.

If you have to have 4 star amenities, you won't like hostels; but if you like value for your dollar, try one.

This is my part of the world. Was born and raised just north of Cambridge and visited Duxford more times than you can shake a stick.
As for lodgings under 50 pounds you may be hard pressed. I would suggest logging onto the Cambridge Tourism site and search accommodations. You could probably find a lot of B & B's in town that will meet your needs. Also google the Youth Hostelling Association in England. They have hostels all over the UK, cheap to stay and usually very safe.
The main bus station is down town, very accessible to everything from there. The universities etc. If you are in Cambridge make sure you climb up Great ST Marys Tower, its in the main market place, great view of the surrounding city and countryside, and rooftops of all the universities.
If you want to see a great cathedral maybe take a bus trip out to Ely. Its on the edge of the fens and you can see the cathedral from miles around. Very old town and only about 10 miles from Cambridge. Should be accessible by bus quite easily.
If interested there is also a huge, and I mean, huge American War cemetary in Madingley which is on the outskirts of Cambridge. Contains alot of soldiers that were killed during DDay etc. Very nice spot for a couple of hours to wander, check out the chapel and generally reflect on life a bit. Quite serene and peaceful

If £50 is too low, thanks for the info. I will start adjusting the budget.

I will use your suggestions for finding some accommodation. I was hoping for some name recommendations but staying around Cambridge is not so common as London, it seems.

Thanks for the info about the Cambridge area, Pete. It helps a lot! Cheers.
