Brits do it all the time for their supplies of wine, cheese and other necessities of life.

Relaxing trip. Neat little town. Great place for mussels. Do it.

Not for nothing are the Dover to Calais crossings known as "Booze Cruises", ashamed to admit have hopped over for this reason. Calais was badly damaged in WW2 and the redevelopment is not that inspiring.

However, we prefer Boulogne for a day trip because it has more character/is more attractive and has better restaurants etc as well as good local shopping. It is a one hour sailing from Dover.

Thank you all for your replies!

I had not considered going to Boulogne until your post, Linda. That is definately something I am going to look into.

Hoping you all have a wonderful day,
Kristen
