Hi everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has been here. If so, what you thought and how long it takes to tour?
Also, Sweetheart Abbey?
Thanks!
The main thing is travel time to get there, where are you coming from? You probably know that it's right on the southern border of Scotland, just over the border from England. Once you get there and park, allow 1 to 1-1/2 hours to explore it, it's not huge but with some great features: the inner Renaissance facade is unexpectedly charming. And yes, Sweetheart Abbey is nearby and if you've gone all the way to Caerlaverock, why not go there as well. And Threave Garden is close and recommended, if you're there in late spring or summer, but probably not in the fall--all three are in the same general area south of Dumfries.
Thanks Kent,
You are always so helpful. We will probably skip the gardens as it will be fall and timing will be important. We will be coming up from the Lake District and traveling to the Trossachs area and wanted to be sure we have enough time to see the castle and the abbey. Thanks again for all of your help! I can't believe we finally leave next Tues!
