Has anyone ever stopped at one of the Cab Stands in London for a cuppa or a little something?
Nope. A couple of years ago I read a post on a visit to a cab stand by a London blogger who specialized in reviews of local cafes (think greasy spoons). He wasn't impressed.
You probably know where they are but here is a list of the Cabman's Shelters ....The surviving shelters can be seen at: Chelsea Embankment - near the Albert Bridge Embankment Place Grosvenor Gardens - west side of north garden Hanover Square - north of central garden Kensington Park Road - outside numbers 8-10 Kensington Road - north side Pont Street Russell Square - west corner (previously in Leicester Square) St George's Square, Pimlico Temple Place Thurloe Place, Kensington - opp the Victoria & Albert Museum
Warwick Avenue - Clifton Gardens Wellington Place, St John's Wood ....it's on my list for my next visit. My mum and aunt had tea at one several years ago....they said it was good!!
Have not tried the cab stands, but whenever we are out on the moors, or other isolated areas we do look for, and stop at, the tea vans parked along the main roads. There used to be some in London which saved my life on a number of late night occassions. Cold winter night, nice hot cup of tea and a sandwich
Brian, I have done that too on Dartmoor. Traveling with my sister lets me do things I can't do when traveling with my husband. Like stopping at a roadside trailer for a cuppa. (He won't even go to a Pret a Manger..did I spell it correctly?) We (the sister) had a cabstand on our list of things to do and just plain forgot to do it.
No, I haven't but it sounds like great fun!!!!
