Cab from Victoria to King's Cross

My wife and I leave tomorrow evening for Britain. We are arriving at Gatwick Wednesday morning (GMT) and are traveling straight through London to York to start our trip (we are taking Rick's advice and seeing London at the end). We have had several people suggest to us that, being our first time in London, and right after an 8 hour flight, we'd be better served to spend the money on a cab through London from Victoria to King's Cross rather than braving the Tube with our backpacks, day bags, and complete lack of knowledge of the Tube itself.

My question is, does anyone know approximately how much the ride might cost?

Thanks!

Who gave you that advice? It is VERY easy to get from Victoria to Kings Cross. Just take a Circle Line train! No changing! Cheap and fun and much better than London traffic- even in a cab!!!! Cabs are VERY expensive!

Or even easier. Take the First Capital Connect train direct from Gatwick to Kings Cross Station. It actually goes to St. Pancras International Station which is right next door to Kings Cross. About 40 minute trip.

As Eric says there is an easier way to do it but riding in a London Black Cab is an experience in itself.

Nobody can predict the route a cabbie will take ( they know where all the traffic hold ups are and where all the road works are - on an hourly basis ) but it's likely that your journey would be: Victoria - right onto Buckingham Palace Road, past Buckingham Palace, right and down The Mall, through Trafalgar Square, along The Strand past Charing Cross, into Aldwych, left up Kingsway, onto Southampton Row, right onto Euston Road, swing into St Pancras and "Bob's yer muvva's bruvva" as they say.

I'd be surprised if you got any change out of GBP25.00 ( including tip ) but it is a great journey through the heart of London.

First Capital Connect trains run about every 15 minutes and the trip takes 55 minutes. The fare is £8.90.

I received a personal message from Cary indicating that they used their Britrail pass on the First Capital Connect train and are on their way.
