Buses in Dublin

I am so excited about our first trip to Ireland, but one thing is still making me VERY nervous is the bus system. We (hubby & I) will be staying north-west of Dublin at Castle Dunboyne Hotel and Spa. (Husband's work is paying.) I am hoping to bus into Dublin the days hubby is working and see the sights myself (Mon-Wed). We are off N3, just past (southwest) Dunboyne on R157,Maynooth Road. I am hoping to get some information on how to cordinate getting to and from Dublin. Anywhere I could get a)bus schedule, b)bus routes, and c)alternative options? I have heard a taxi is $40.00 one way -WAY too expensive. Everyone has been so helpful in previous posts, I'm hoping I get some great brainstorming ideas with this one. Thanks ahead of time. Still planning with a smile, Ambur :)

Have you contacted your hotel yet and requested local information including local transportation?
I just returned 2 days ago from 17 days in Ireland and found local hotels (and B&Bs) to have the best information (including local TIs).

Amber, I'm fairly sure that a bus will be fairly close, but you might want to consider taking a taxi to Maynooth DART station. It looks like it is fairly close and DART will get you into the city much more quickly. I agree that your hotel will be exceedingly helpful and that getting into Dublin on public transportation won't be a problem.

DART is great, esp if you're close to the rail system. Try one of the hop on/off buses, but be sure to do your sightseeing in a counterclockwise direction (i.e. don't do Kilmainham Jail then plan to go next to Guinness factory... you'll have to make almost a complete loop. Voice of experience.
