Bus tours to Stonehenge and Bath

The tour descriptions for the main tour operators (Evan Evans, Golden Tours, and International Friends) all sound about the same. Any experiences as to which one provides the best service for the money?

Evan Evans has been around for ever and are very reliable. The journey by coach to and from Bath is long. Check with the tour company how much time you actually have at each site before you decide. (and that probably includes lunch). If Stonehenge interests you more than Bath, I would take a train to Salisbury, rent a car and see both Stonehenge and Avebury

Larry, Depending on your Itinerary, you might also consider staying in Bath for a day or two, and taking one of the local walking tours. From there it's very easy to get to Stonehenge using Mad Max Tours. You may enjoy having a look at some of the comments for Mad Max on Trip Advisor (they're ranked at No. 2 for attractions in Bath). Cheers!

http://www.premiumtours.co.uk/ will also be much like Evan Evans and Golden. International Friends has a maximum of 16 tourists and offers a much better experience. In comparing prices make sure that you take into admission prices to the Roman Baths and Stonehenge if not included. International Friends spell everything out nicely http://www.internationalfriends.co.uk/bath-and-stonehenge.html . The other companies will spend a lot of time picking up people from London hotels before dropping you at Victoria Coach Station for the start of your tour. Many people are surprised that they drop you off back there too, not at your hotel. Use International Friends for your tour.

I took the Evan Evans day tour from London to Stonehenge. It was simple, nothing outstanding, but accomplished what I was looking for. The only thing I would recommend is to contact them and see where else in the city they pick up travelers. I went to their offices by Trafalger (sp?) Square, only to find out they picked up travelers about 4 blocks from my hotel. Its a long drive, but a good opportunity to take a nap and rest up a bit.

agree you should stay in bath. it may not have any site that blow you away, but just walking around the old city in early morning is very cool. the tour from bath to stonehenge is pretty good. when i took it a couple of years ago we visited 2 stonehenges (1 with smaller stone but much bigger field), a few of old towns (1 of them is harry porter's parents town or something like that). had lunch at a real old pub and saw more beautiful villages along the way. it'll probably give you more to see, and i was on a real small bus so you can chat with the driver to get a real feel for the area. if you cover both bath and stonehenge on a single tour, you probably won't see these little places which were great highlights to me.

We did the Evans tour of Stonehenge and Bath a few years ago and enjoyed it. We had ample time in both locations and our guide was well informed. Lunch was on our own - not included. It is a long day. However, we saw a great deal of the countryside which was interesting. Since we never rent a car, we rely on trains or small day tours like this to see the sites. We would take an Evans tour again.
