Just a bit of information for those from the Minneapolis and Los Angeles areas who are planning on visiting London &/or Stratford-upon-Avon after October 30 and would like to know what excellent British theatre is before getting there. The Royal Shakespeare Company is touring those American cities w/Trevor Nunn's productions of King Lear and Chekhov's The Seagull. Ian McKellen stars in both. Not only is he an excellent screen actor(Lord of the Rings) but he is even more of an exceptional stage actor. I saw Ian years ago on stage at BAM when he starred in Richard II. He was brilliant then as he should be now. Trevor Nunn is a skillful stage director. I saw his 2nd edition of Nicholas Nickleby. It was pure delight. Google his name to read more about him. In my opinion, Trevor's forte is making the classics come to life. RSC not only showcases top notch stage actors, but it is also a training ground for future actors. Kenneth Branagh, Roger Rees, Judi Dench (to name just a few) have all starred in RCS productions sometime during their career. The RSC will be playing at Minneapolis's Guthrie Theatre from 10/5-10/14 & UCLA's Royce Hall from 10/19/-10/28. If anyone sees any of these plays, please email me or write a post to describe your fantastic experience. Has anyone ever seen a RSC or any other English theatre production? Tell us about it.
