British Railpasses

I'm confused. I need info on 3 seniors traveling together in England and Scotland for 4-6 days. What pass should I purchase? Consecutive Sr. Pass, Flex pass, Adult Party pass, etc. What does "Consecutive" mean? Thanks

Consecutive means the pass will allow unlimited travel for so many days in a row, depending on which length of pass you purchase. So with the extra bonus day for pass purchases by 4/28, if you can get all your train trips done in 5 days in a row, you can purchase a BritRail Consecutive Party Pass for 3 adults for $673 for 1st Class, or $447 for Standard Class. Whether you purchase standard or first class is personal preference, but my husband and I always purchase the first class passes to be able to get more room, comfortable seats, and less crowded rail cars, especially when making the long trip from London to Edinburgh. I know some people prefer to purchase individual tickets for a particular date and time in advance to same money, but if you miss that train you lose your money in most cases. We like the flexibility of being able to choose which train to take on a given day - depending on whether we slept in and had a late breakfast, tried to squeeze in one more site before leaving an area, or got tied up in traffic getting to the station. Hope this helps. Have a wonderful trip.

Thanks for the information. However, we plan to stay in several cities for 2 or 3 days and the Consecutive pass would not work. I was also informed that you can get a 20% discount if you travel in Nov-Feb. Thanks again.

You can get a flex pass which allows so many days within a 2 month period. If the three of you will always be traveling together you can get Flex Saver Pass. This is cheaper and allows more freedom to move around when you want.

Thanks Dianne. I think the Flex Pass is what I'm looking for. I also like the word, "cheap." Thanks again. Jim

Jim, You mentioned the Low Season 20% discount since your trip will be in that time frame. The discount only applies to Standard Pass prices (either flex or consecutive), but not to the Party Pass or Senior Pass. A Flex Party Pass for 3 adults good for 3 days travel over 2 months would be $573. Three Adults Flex Passes (for the same number of days) with the low season discount would be $549.60. Those prices are for traveling 2nd class, and of course would be higher for 1st class. Not a whole lot of difference, but every little bit helps!! BTW, my husband and I have always purchased Flex Passes for the exact reason that Dianne mentioned - more freedom. Mary
