We are flying on BA to Brussels (thru Heathrow) on June 15 and are worried about another strike happening. As far as I can find out, no insurance covers this because as the companies say, "it is foreseen". Anyone have suggestions?
If there is a strike and your flight is canceled, you're entitled to a full refund, even if you purchased a "non-refundable ticket". Thus, insurance is a bit irrelevant. The best you can do is wait it out, if BA tells you your flight is canceled, simply book with another airline. You will probably wind up paying more....but you may get lucky if you roll the dice and use Priceline.
A five day strike started this Monday, May 24th which is the first of a series of 5 day strikes.
In my experience, Julia - most places are good about giving refunds in Europe, if there's no language barrier - if you booked with a travel agent, have them try to secure refunds if needed. Getting insurance to cover strikes can be tricky.
I've found that telling the hotel that you intend to travel again, and book with them really helps getting a nonrefundable deposit, etc back. Crossing fingers for you!
