My hubby is currently in the UK visiting his 82 mum, last year he took her into Devon for a little mini break.. Yesterday she said that while he's here she would like to go away for a few days and see some Tudor homes.. As this is VERY last minute and he doesn't have computer access I thought I'd get some suggestions here... I was thinking of places that aren't too far away and came up with ... Stratford on Avon
Shrewsbury Chester Can anyone suggest a route that avoids going into the likes of Birmingham and a nice scenic alternative route back to Portishead, I was thinking through Wales ? Thanks
Bristol to Chester.
Tintern Abbey; Wye valley; Ledbury, Weobley, Eardisland (the last three have lots of black and white buildings) hop gardens to Chester. There is a fascinating old church with pagan symbols and Celtic crosses at Kilpeck. Interesting cathedrals at Tewksbury and Hereford
Thanks so much for responding..
Look at RAC route planner. Stratford is a bit off route there. I'd be inclined to go up via Tintern Abbey - old ruin - Hereford, which has some great buildings and tour the so called black and white villages there, Ledbury and Kilpeck church is a must see. Ludlow is also lovely, with more great black and white buildings - maybe stay at the feathers hotel and have tea at de greys. Shrewsbury and then chester. Maybe stop in shrewsbury on the way up and ludlow on the way down or vice versa (as they are only about an hour apart) Could call into Stokesay castle - really a fortified manor house near Craven Arms and head over to Leintwardine for a cute pub called the sun, with a traditional parlour and maybe a meal at the Jolly Frog.
