Bringing food into Ireland

Does anyone know if you can bring trail mix, protein bars, packets of oatmeal, etc into Ireland? My husband and I like to have snacks with us but don't want to have them confiscated at the airport. We won't be visiting Northern Ireland if that makes a difference.

Christy, you can bring any of those types of snacks. Its most often meats, and fruits and veggies that are the problem. Dried foods etc like you mention are fine..

I sure wouldn't bring oatmeal to Ireland,, isn't it famous for their delish oatmeal,, thats like bringing wine to France or pasta to Italy<< LOL

The snacks are more for the plane rides, not actually eating them in Ireland, as we will definitely be enjoying local cuisine. We have a long layover on the way home and I want to make sure we have healthy homemade snacks, rather than buying something at the airport.

Christy, you might want to read Best food, snacks blog under General Europe in this forum. I'm surprised Pat didn't warn you about trail mix. You may want to avoid anything with peanuts or nuts in general. You have to read the two pages of comments to thoroughly understand. Happy travels!

I wouldn't worry about carrying enough "healthy, homemade snacks" to last your trip until the plane home. You could always stop in a grocery store before going to the airport. I carry things like crackers or snack bars on the way over, but they never last until the return trip.
