We are going to Ireland at the end of June, staying 3 weeks, and touring the whole island. This is my husband and I's 4th trip there, but our 7 year old daughter's first time. Can anyone recommend any good books for a juvenile (or even videos)? I want her to know some of the history (looking for anything-from the Celts to the Potato Famine to The Troubles, etc). I checked at our library, and they weren't much help. Thanks!
www.travelwithkids.com might help some. National Geographic's video, "Destination Ireland." Sorry no book suggestions.
Tomie de Paola has written and illustrated countless wonderful picture books. He has done a few set in Ireland that would be perfect for your daughter. Eve Bunting and Gail Gibbons are other authors to check. Google for specific
titles. Happy reading.
Hi, Consider the Medieval Banquet at Bunratty Castle as an evening out. My 9-year-old enjoyed eating with her fingers. She is now 18-years-old with 17 trips to Great Britain and that event ranks high on her list of favorite things. We let her select books at the different places she visited. They were topics for discussion along the way. Satellite TV and electronic devices now offer more options for evening entertainment in the B&Bs.
