Blood Brothers

We try to see something with a British flavor and something not readily seen in the U.S. when we take in a play in London. Two years ago we saw War Horse; last year it was Billy Elliot. This year we're contemplating Blood Brothers. Anybody in the RS family seen it? Reviews? Other suggestions? (and we have pretty much ruled out Mousetrap...). Thanks!

Have not seen Blood Brothers. Presently on stage, "Matilda, The Musical, " "One Man, Two Guvnors," the sublime Noel Coward's "Hay Fever," and "The King's Speech." Take a gander at Timeout London online and read the reviews of each. Personally, Mousetrap was great fun. Tickets easily gotten at the Leicester Sq. 1/2 ticket booth.

I saw it... whoa, 15 years ago in London. I enjoyed it, still listen to some of the songs on CD. It's fairly depressing, from what I recall. I'd second "One Man, Two Guvnors," "Hay Fever," and "The King's Speech." But, my recommendations really depend on when you're going to be there...?

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. We will be there the nights of 4,5, and 6 July. Another thought was to see the Wizard of Oz....the trailer looks pretty neat.

Hmm, for the 4th and 5th I've got Shakespeares booked at Roundhouse (Comedy of Errors, Twelfth Night, Tempest), and I know I've got Henry V at The Globe booked around then too. National Theatre hasn't given dates/times for then yet. I believe Midsummer and Ragtime are on around then at Regent's Park. Another possibility would be Sweeney Todd with Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball. The Udderbelly Festival is also still running at that point, you might want to take a look if they've got anything interesting on.

I saw Blood Brothers 11 years ago; it was one of the first musicals I ever saw and I absolutely loved it. When I visited London last summer, I considered going again but chose instead to see Wicked and Billy Elliott.

I've seen Blood Brothers and I did like it (although agree it is a bit depressing). Good music - some of the songs have very memorable tunes that will stick in your head for days. One good thing is that it is pretty much always available at the half price booth.
