Birmingham England Info

I will be in Birmingham England for 5 days for a conference. Since the city wasn't included in Rick's 2009 travel guide, I am at a loss for information.
I will have evenings and 1 full day to see as much as possible.
What are the "must see" sites?
Does anyone know of any great B&Bs there?
Any restaurants/pubs/bistros you would recommend?
Thanks so much!

You absolutely have to have a curry in Birmingham. It's traditional. I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the wonderful restaurant I went to (I was in a stupor from eating my own body weight in naan bread), but there are lots of websites discussing which is the best Indian restaurant in Birmingham.

I know the art gallery is supposed to have an outstanding collection of pre-Raphaelite paintings. I sadly didn't get time to have a look when I was there.

If you enjoy photography you have to go and have a look at the Selfridges store. It's gorgeous. When I went there were tons of people trying to get the perfect shot. http://www.virtualbrum.co.uk/selfridges.htm

Laura knows of what she speaks: the Balti curry houses are renowned, Google them to find names and addresses. And, as she also mentions, the outstanding Pre-Raphaelite collection is at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.

Anyone know of a great B&B?
And, what is the public transportation like getting back and forth from the airport?
