I'll be spending six days in the Cotswolds, with Moreton-in-Marsh as my home base. I want to explore Chipping Campden / Broad Campden one day and Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, the Slaughters on another. I don't feel secure enough with attempting driving on the left, so I'll be limited to the buses (which I know have limited schedules, compared to getting around in places like London) to get to those towns for some hiking. I don't want to risk spoiling the enjoyment of the time I spend hiking with the underlying thought of needing to get back to the town in time for one of the buses. (The thought of a missed bus and having to do an 8 mile walk back to Moreton-in-Marsh isn't too appealing after a day of hiking.)
I've been considering renting a bike to get to the towns, but I'm not sure of what my options would be as to where I can lock up a rental bike and not risk having it stolen while away on a hike. Has anyone used a bike as a means of transportation to get to hiking locations? If so, what are the options of places to lock up the bike?

A car in Cptswolds is not difficult. Not much traffic and people tend to drive slower cause the roads are narrow and the secnery is eye catching. A bike would work, although there are a lot of hilly bits. I have recently examined the bus scheules and they really are difficult and very few and far between. Stow is one of the few places with a few bus lines going through it. Most of the lines come from outside and just get a few villages into the Cotswolds. No network within the Cotswolds. I think having to get back to Moreton every night is really going to limit your choices I tried hiking once and found very limited choices. Since then I've stuck to a car
