I've read in Rick Steves' guide that there are places to rent bikes in York, and that it's a very bike-friendly place. Does anyone know if there are dedicated bike trails heading through primarily non-urban areas that would be good for an afternoon of biking? I'm curious if there's something that's easy to follow without getting lost.

<www.york.gov.uk/cycling/> seems to have what you're looking for. Old York is a walled city. You are out in the open country pretty quickly. Dress like you would at home in Seattle. Winter is a lot colder. Climate similar to BC.
