biking in ireland

Has anyone biked in Ireland by way of renting bikes in small towns? I would like to go as cheaply as possible and cannot afford the organized biking tours.

We've done some day trips in Ireland on bikes, which were great. A simple Internet search should yield bike shops renting bikes. I'd suggest really good rain gear and proper maps. Call bike shops for information about routes, etc.

Both were easy (for us) day bike trips and very enjoyable. One was a from Dingle circling the Dingle Peninsula...about 30 miles and fairly flat but windy. The other trip was from Killarney and we took a boat and then cycled through the Gap of Dunloe. Bikes were rented locally for each trip and bike shops can offer advice as to routes for these trips and surely many others. Beer tastes much better after cycling. No need to go with an organized tour in my opinion for these and similar trips.
