Bike Barge Tours

Has anyone done the bike/barge tours in Netherlands? Looks that they are inexpensive and if you have, what is the best time to do them?? Bill

It sounds interesting. We have done self-drive trips in France (numerous time & different areas) We have also done England and Wales, and now Venice. We have rented from Crown Blue Lines, except for Wales. It is similar to RVing but on water. We prefer one way rental. Down river seems better, because of the locks. It is easier to go into a full lock and then "slide down" the wall and go out of the lock. For an extra fee you can have bikes on you boat. The Netherlands are on one of our future lists to houseboat. Google Crown Blue and Europe and you will find there web site. The boats move very slow and you bascially tie up where ever you like. They give you a map with place to see, etc. and were to refill water and have diner, etc. They give you a short lesson, and then you are on your own "barging" into the coutryside.
