Beverages in Scotland

I can't drink any carbonated beverages. I generally drink either bottled water or lemonade. Is lemonade in Scotland like ours here in the states or will it be a fizzy drink? Are there other alternatives for me to choose either in stores, restaurants or pubs?

Lemonade does generally mean a fizzy drink over here. You could ask for still lemon, although not everywhere will have that. In my experience lots of pubs and restaurants have J20 which are still fruit drinks. Supermarkets will have flavoured still waters and squash. http://www.j2o.co.uk/the-j2o-range.aspx

Thank you, Laura. I checked out the website for the J20 and I can't wait to try it. Raspberry is my favorite flavor, then orange. I'll be looking for J20 when I get to Edinburgh.

Lots of good flavored waters... Lemon, black current, various berries. Good tea ( hot...not iced LOL). Ribenna is a juice box type drink... Seen it advertised, but haven't tried it. Experiment.

When I saw the heading I expected that was going to be the subject. Defintely went in a different direction

I would avoid asking for a lemonade as it would be assumed you wanted a fizzy drink. You'd need to be specific about wanting it to be flat, and expect people to look puzzled. Not in a bad way just because of the same term covering slightly different things. Squash is the generic term for a flat drink made from cordial if you are struggling. (Most places will sell J20.)

Hi, I just got back, well last Friday. Hard to believe I've been home almost a whole week already. :( I found J2O in a lot of places and it was FANTASTIC. I just wish I could get something like that here. An Indian restaurant in Inverness didn't have J2O or anything like it but they mixed up apple juice and mango juice into a wonderful drink for us. The first thing I'd ask for was "a non-fizzy lemonade or other beverage". One bartender offered me an ale with a big smile and then listed all the juices he had. I had no trouble finding things to drink. Pam
