I'm going to be visiting norway and sweden in July, I'm hoping to spend my first days in oslo and then drive/train/ferry around the Sogenfjord to Bergen. I would really like to have a car to explore countryside and visit Sweden after Norway, but I also really want to take that train trip betw Flam and Myrdal. Want to overnight somewhere betw Oslo and Bergen for a night or two, not sure how to put it all together.

I really rate the Norway in a Nutshell tour. I did it all in the one day, in Sepptember, stayed a night in Bergen and then took the sleep train back to Oslo. I'd be tempted to take the Nutshell tour but stop in the little village where you get on the ferry - no reason, I just really wished I could stop there - and then maybe hire a car in Bergen. I would do the sleeper train again, or you could drive back, although that could be time consuming.
