Best use of 3-4 days in London

My girlfriend and I will be vacationing in Europe this July and I was wondering about the best use of time with 3-4 days in London. We would both like to see any famous areas really in and around the city or really anything that would provide a nice and possibly romantic experience.

Start with the Hop on/off bus. That will get you orineted and let you "see" the major sites. Most companies have a 24 hour ticket and it may include a cruise on the Thames. Give yourself time to wander around. We love walking from Covent Garden to Liecester Square then either to Picadilly Circus or down towards Big Ben/Parliment/Westminster/Pall Mall and Buckingham Palace. Kew Gardens is romantic in my opinion. So is sitting in Leciester Square people watching and holding hands. An evening cruise on the Thames might be nice. For a day trip I'd suggest Windsor. It is only about 1/2 hour away by train and you can spend the whole day or only part of it. Windsor Castle and it's gardens are at the top of my list! And you can watch a changing of the Guard there rather than at Buckinham where it is so crowded. There are neat shops and good resturants, too. Then walk over the bridge to Eaton. You can do a cruise there also and get different views of the town and the castle. Covent Garden,Portobello Rd., St. Martin's in the Fields, St. Johns on Picadilly and other places have great markets to explore.

I agree with Toni. If its your first time, and you are limited to a few days, get oriented with the hop on/hop off bus. We did that in Barcelona, and it worked great as it took us to places we were planning to go anyway.

The London Eye is a nice place to share a city view. I thought going at sunset would be nice, but I forgot the sun gets in your eye as it sets. Beautiful view if its a clear day.
