There are a lot of open-air folk museums in Norway. Our current plans are to visit Tromso, Trondheim, Alesund, Bergen, and Oslo. Which of those is the best? We're two adults, no kids.
It has been a while, but I've been to the Open Air Museum in Oslo and to Maihaugen in Lillehammer. I enjoyed both. The day I went to Maihaugen, they had a special children's day and it was a fantastic time to visit. They had folk dancing, lots of kids in costumes, many special activities that were fun to watch, etc. My main suggestion would be to check the websites of the museums and see if there are any special activities on the day that you are thinking about visiting.
The one in Oslo is the only one we saw in Norway but we really enjoyed it. We saw the one in Stockholm as well (that Rick Steves raves about) and we preferred the one in Oslo. It seemed more authentic and less cheesy. Plus, it's right next to several other very good museums so it's convenient too.
Hello Dav. Of the places that you mentioned, I think the best open air museum is the one at Oslo.
