Please tell your experience with Belfast airport rental cars. Which company is the best value with the most reliable cars? Which company to stay away from? Which cars are good for NI roads? Is Auto transmission easy to get? Thanks!
Jim
You should check rental prices now and reserve as soon as you see a good deal, particularly if you want an automatic transmission. (You won't be able to just go to the counter and rent one, most likely.) As for size, you'll want the smallest car you can manage with because the roads are narrow in places. I've rented several times in Ireland and have had no problems with reliability. For me, the best company is the one who gives me the best deal.
Jim - for what it's worth we were in Belfast in September and had no problems renting from Europcar. www.europcar.com
Recommend you reserve in advance, before your trip. You should be able to get an auto tranmission car if you do that. One caveat: there are two airports in Belfast, Belfast International and Belfast City. Be sure which one you want.
Don't worry about the roads in Northern Ireland, they're very good, much better than in Ireland proper. Driving in NI is easy.
One Europcar website tip: be sure to select "United Kingdom" as your country of rental. If you select "Ireland", you won't find Belfast.
