I liked the Bridge in Dunkeld. It was friendly, had a fantastic breakfast, and was walking distance to The Music Bar where you can hear Scottish music.

Joe, one of our favorites is the Lawriestone House in Ft. William - http://www.lawriestone.co.uk/
or the Bluebell House in Inverness - http://www.bluebell-house.com/index.htm
In Oban it's Dunheanish House

Our favorite one in all of Scotland is on the Isle of Skye but it recently closed (Stonefield House). We also like the Peinmore House - really neat. http://www.peinmorehouse.co.uk/ Peinmore House was built in the 19th Century originally as a Church of Scotland manse

Joe, my wife and I have travelled throughout Scotland on our 6 trips there. We have some definite favorites. I've edited the huge list down to 3 of our absolute top notch recommendations and why.

In Edinburgh, The Prestonfield House. It's magnificent. Located on Priestfield Road about 5 minutes outside of the city center of Edinburgh. It's not cheap, but it has recently undergone a total renovation. The original rooms in the main front part are absolutely splendid, the newer rooms are modern and have more amenities...either way it's a win/win. It has peacocks roaming the ancient grounds, and Highland cattle on the property as well. Even if you decide not to stay there, the restaurant is top notch. This is the only higher priced recommendation of the lot...it just needed to be at the top of the list.

A road runs along the backside of Loch Ness after you drive the length from Inverness to Ft. William. As you come back around, you'll enter the town of Foyers. The Foyers Bay House is quaint, immaculate, beautiful, affordable and run by a delightful couple. The wife runs the day to day at the hotel, and the husband is a gourmet chef who prepares the daily meals. It is situated right near the Falls of Foyers, a beautiful waterfall next to Loch Ness. It's a place I never heard of...I gues Nessie gets all the press around there. It's a must.

Finally, In Cullen Bay, there's a turreted old mansion on the sea called the Cullen Bay Hotel. You'll take your meals on the enclosed veranda and watch the dolphins swim by as you eat breakfast. It's very affordable, and in the ancient town is Findlater castle, carved into the cliffs overlooking the water...it is simply the most unique place...like being in another world. It's quiet, comfortable and special in every way.
