best b&b in Dingle, galway

Flying into Shannon, have 3 nights to spend. Someone suggested 2 nights in Dingle, is there enough to do there to warrant 2 nights? On third day planning to drive to Galway stopping at cliffs of Moher. Do you all have favorite B& B's in these places? thanks

Two nights in Dingle gives you one full day plus part of your arrival day. For us, that was just the right amount of time - two good dinners / pub visits, the full day for a leisurely drive around the tip of the peninsula and some in-town shopping. We stayed at Castlewood - lovely accommodation just west of the town centre, easy level walk into town along the water, very gracious hosts....When you drive from Shannon to Dingle, there is a tunnel under the Shannon which bypasses Limerick. This tunnel doesn't get mentioned much on this board - people get the impression that there are only two choices: drive through Limerick traffic or take the ferry!....Galway is a good shopping destination, for scenery you need to go past the city and explore beautiful Connemara which deserves at least two full days. If you want a castle stay, consider Ballynahinch Castle Hotel, near Roundstone and Clifden. Lovely setting, friendly, not as expensive as other castle options. (Both my accommodation recommendations are current - we stayed in them April, 2012.)

Michelle - I agree with Cynthia 2 days is about the right amount of time. Our family stayed at CoastLine B&B. Vivienne was a very nice host and was very knowledable on the goings on in town.

We stayed two nights in Dingle and didn't lack for things to do. We stayed at the Milestone House, which is just outside of the city center and at the beginning of the Slea Head drive that takes you around the peninsula. The owners, Michael and Barbara, where fantastic. They provided two hand drawn maps. One was of Dingle, showing where everything was located and providing suggestions about the best places to eat, see live music, etc. The second one was a map of the peninsula, showing where all the highlights are, where to stop, and so on. They served the best breakfast of anywhere I've stayed, and I've stayed in a lot of places. It's cooked to order, including scrambled eggs with salmon and delicious soda bread, both white and brown. I'd go back just for the food!! The Dingle area was may favorite part of Ireland. For Galway we stayed one night in the Salt Hill Area. We didn't have a reservation (last week of April) but found many B&Bs facing the water. We checked a few out and decided on one. I can't remember the name of it, but there was no lack of ion. From there it was an easy walk to the old area of Galway.

Two nights in Dingle is perfect. We stayed at The Castlewood House and it was great. A modern place but wonderful breakfasts and gracious hosts. Lots of good resturants and pubs in Dingle plus good shopping. Take the boat tour tour from the harbor out past Slea Head. We hired a driver and car for a private tour of the Peninsula(60 euros for 3-4 hours) well worth it as you could concenrate on the scenery rather than worrying about driving. Tom

We stayed at the Eieen's Kirrary BnB which was very nice and really was like being part of the family. Her husband runs the Rick Steves' tour groups on the drive around Dingle Peninsula. We probably would have taken his tour but a group was in town so he was booked up and the self-drive was really nice anyway. I recommend making time for the Blasket Island museum if you go. I wasn't a fan of Galway and after driving around for an hour (there are no street signs in Galway) we finally found College Road where there are 10 or more BnBs all down one side of the street. After trying a couple we ended up the Balcony House which was charming. I really felt staying over at your grandmother's house - I found I kept whispering for no particular reason. The woman who runs it is super sweet and seems to do it just because she wants to - when we showed up she showed us to a room and got us directions for dinner places and generally situated and never mentioned money once. We showed up in May in both places without reservations and had no problems. I would recommend staying on the coast for the drive from the Cliffs through Doolin to Galway. Also, take the Tarbert/Killrush ferry across the bay don't waste time driving through Limerick. I had never taken a car ferry but it was very straightforward. =Tod

Michelle, You could also have a look at Alpine Guesthouse in Dingle. It's in a great location, and easy walking distance to the harbour and the main part of town, and more importantly lots of great Pubs! Sláinte!

We've stayed twice at Greenmount. It's a bit expensive but great view and a wonderful breakfast.

We stayed at a wonderful inn/B&B named Pax House. It is just on the outskirts of Dingle town with a beautiful view across the water. John is a great host, and the resident dog Rio will grab your heart.

We stayed at the Alpine house as well and the location was good. But it lacked in charm and the place that looked wonderful was the Embaugh Hotel with it's peat fires and cozy lounge area.

Well I have to weigh in and recommend the Lighthouse B&B in Dingle. We will always stay there on future trips. But I'm not sure you can go wrong with all the other recommendations either. Checkout the reviews on TripAdvisor. Tell Denis and Mary hello for me! :)

Agree with previous posters, you have many good choices, we stayed at the Lighthouse on three different trips and loved it. Lovely view, car park. The only problem was walking back at night, no street lamps but had our own mini flashlight we used in so many rural places in Ireland. Enjoy, town, views are lovely.

We stayed for two nights at Murphy's B&B (the B&B beside the pub, not the one owned by Murphy's pub). Very nice couple, helped with everything from places to go for dinner to finding a phone. Very reasonable prices. Would love to go again.

We stayed at the Petra House in Galway on our honeymoon and it was really lovely. Wonderful breakfasts and close enough to walk into town...also a private car park which was convenient in Galway. We also stayed a night in Doolin, close to the Cliffs of Moher...beautiful little town!
