We are deciding between The OldBakehouse which RS recommends in his 2007 guidebook and South Hill Farmhouse. Has anyone had experience with either?
I looked at the OldBakehouse online when planning a couple of nights...can't remember why we didn't stay there, but I know several RS rec's were booked. We ended up staying at Ninevineh (sp?)House near Chipping Campden (not yet RS recommended) and loved it. The setting is very pastural, our room exceptionally clean, close to another cute little town we went to for dinner twice (not to mention very close to Stow and Campden--plus the other Cotswolds villages).
I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Jillian, where are these two b&b's? For what is worth, the last time (Oct.2004) we were in the Cotswolds we stayed in a tiny little village called Kingham and used it as our base for several days. The house was a former wash house. It's a lovely place and so were our hosts. Further info is at home but if you want it I can easily get it for you. Right now I can only remember that the cats name was Domino.
My plan is to stay in Moreton-in-Marsh at one of Rick's recommended B&Bs (Warwick House). From there I will take local buses to other Cotswald villages. Moreton is on a train line about 90 min from Paddington Station in London. I've stayed in Moreton before and found it a good hub for Cotswald explorations.
I stayed in the Cotswolds last week for several days, and based in Stow-on-the-Wold in the Old Stocks Hotel. Everything was great, but it's best to have a Car as the transportation connections to most towns (except for Moreton) are a bit erratic.
There is regular train service to Moreton-in Marsh, Stratford-upon-Avon (north end of Cotswalds), and Warwick (near Stratford). Frequent bus service runs between these places and to some of the Cotswald villages. Stow-on-the-Wold is picturesque and possibly has more lodging than some of the other towns. I've stayed in Moreton and Warwick and taken daytrips to the other towns by bus.
