Best 3 day Scotland highland intenerary

In a few years my parents and I are planning to go back to Europe for our second trip. We are going to land in Edinburgh and was wondering what is a good 3 day intenerary for the highlands. We want to see the green hills, mountains, waterfalls, flowers, lochs, just the most beautiful parts of scotland. Any help with be great, thanks!!

Three days isn't alot of time to see the higlands. I'd suggest basing in either Aviemore (small village in the Caringorms with lots of outdoor activities) or Inverness (only city in the Highlands with lots of day trips possible). Either can be easily reached by train from Edinburgh.

I'd side with Toni for once. :) That's the best idea for a short time.

Don't look for the Caledonian Canal anywhere near Oban; it's western terminus is fifty miles away at Ft. William.

I would stay in one place, but I would stay over either near Pitlochry or further north. You can see some of the Cairngorms from there, but you can also easily get west if the weather is good in the west. Or if it's not, Perthshire and the lochs are beautiful. I love wee roads. Pitlochry is an older town and has more history. Blair Castle is near by as is Dunkeld and even Perth with Scone Castle. Aviemore is a newer village founded in the 1960's. It has lots of pretty areas--Rothiemurchus Estate for one, but I like the areas near Pitlochry and Dunkeld better.

This week I'm based in Fortrose on the Black Isle north of Inverness. Yesterday we were walking near Loch Ness and today we went further west toward Gairloch. Tomorrow we may go to Ullapool. These are all spectacular. The Anderson is a great place to stay--200 plus whisky's, real ale, Belgian beers and a good cook.

I have been to the Scotland 3 times. The most dramatic scenery to me is the Rannoch Moor and Glencoe. On the way there from Edinburgh you could visit Stirling and Doune Castles if you like. Also Dochart Falls in Killin make at good stop on the way. After Glencoe you could go towards Pitlochery or to Oban and Mull. On Mull there are choices beside going to Iona such as Duart Casle and the gardens at Torosay Castle or driving the other way to Tobermory which is a typical Scottish village. You have lots of options.
